Disgraceful is a bit harsh.

Clumsy - yes, but it wasn't a deliberate effort to put the Cas player beyond the horizontal & IMO you can only describe a deliberate spear tackle as disgraceful.

He quite clearly intended to spear, accidental spears and deliberate ones are easy to tell apart, Murphy looked to lift him into a dangerous position - he should have seen a card in the game.

I agree that he intended to lift the leg, but this was in an attempt to complete the tackle. IMO it was accidental (mainly though the momentum added by the second player in the tackle) that the Cas player went beyond the horizontal.

Wouldn't have seen anything wrong with a yellow card in the match & don't think that - in isolation - there's much complaint about the ban (due to the carelessness), but given the events of the last 24 hours or so it does feel like yet another kick while we're down.

His mistake was intentionally lifting the leg - this always has the potential to turn into a spear tackle. I think his ban might also take into considertion that he had the opportunity to pull out and remove his hand as the tackle progressed, but chose not to. Normal procedure for 'accidental' lifting is usually to pull out of the tackle altogether and apologise immediately if the other player lands on his head. Not to do so makes it look deliberate.

It wasn't deliberate. He was attempting to lift the leg, not tip him into a spear position. Personally a 1 match ban or a sin-binning at the time would do in my opinion. 2 matches seems a tad harsh.

How many matches will this lot be banned for after appeals. I bet Lima plays in the WCC. I have no faith at all in the system to stand firm.
