And yet the atmosphere was half decent yesterday based on some good play early on. 

Supporting a team is a two way street the team also has a responsibility to get that backing from the terraces and based on the recent run, yesterday was a much needed boost in the points and effort department, it certainly felt that way in the ground and the support responded.

I don't think that we have hit toxic levels just yet (I thought I'd heard that phrase on here or reported in the media somewhere) but I'd suggest that the confidence that the crowd has in the team is consistent with their performances of late and there is little credit in the bank, the upward trend of last season seems a long way away.


There is a nervousness about us (the crowd) that I'd hope the team can fix, as it's not a winning formula but in simple terms we have extended passages of play with all the ball all the territory and little to show for it and we don't look resilient defending.


Positive performances aplenty yesterday both Thewlis's, Dufty, Williams, Sneyd, Harrison, Vaughan and Currie I thought were excellent and the rest were decent enough to the point where I'm getting a bit fed up of people constantly bagging Tai Crowther and Powell. It's all about opinions of course but I thought Tai came out with some credit last week and why aren't we celebrating that try saving tackle this week? 


Has this season been good enough? No. Can they fix it? Yes. Will it be too little too late? Probably    

I trust the physics but out of interest was your 18mph an example or did sky say that, of the latter, I'm actually suitably impressed by the analysis.

So a flat ball at 0mph travelling backwards will travel at 18mph forward assuming the player is at that speed at the time of passing (ignoring wind resistant etc).


Forgive me, I still reserve the right to shout "FORWARD" in the ground as the pre match Stella overrules my inner Einstein 

The sky commentators were bending over backwards to justify the pass & Dave Woods was creaming himself when Hull made headway.

Same here ... it was a MILE Forward just look at the cut lines of the grass.

It was my example based on typical sprinting speed and kinetic energy. I'm not sure on your example as if the passer is carrying the ball it will have the same velocity as the player until it is released. In my example I also neglected wind resistance and gravity. It did look a mile forward but it's laid out in the laws of the game.

The direction of a pass is relative to the player making it
and not to the actual path relative to the ground. A player
running towards their opponents’ goal line may throw the
ball towards a colleague who is behind them but because
of the thrower’s own momentum the ball travels forward
relative to the ground. This is not a forward pass as the
thrower has not passed the ball forward in relation to
themself. This is particularly noticeable when a running
player makes a high, lobbed pass.


 

Anyway next match I'm going to shout out  "Forward a friggin' Kilometre" ... and see what reaction I get.
