| A lad I know put on his facebok status this morning, that he had o go and work on a scaffold this morning and the teachers are all of again, health and safety madness IMHO, kids loved the snow when we was at school, we couldnt wait to get in school and play in the snow with our mates.
Police, fireman, hospitals doctors nurse all have to get in work why cant the teachers?

| I agree with Mo its all down to today’s claim culture.
Hopefully one day we’ll all realise that its us who’s paying for everything through our increased premiums, and stop making daft claims, sometime's it is simply your own fault.

| Here's a real scenario - 3 years ago my wife's school was the only school in Carlisle to remain open after heavy snow. They had approximately 10% attendance, numerous complaints from parents who made the effort to get their kids to school and some of the kids that were kept off by their parents lived on the same street that the school is on!

| Teachers like fire officers, civil servants and police officers are always easy targets, sometimes of their own volition but most of the time because we are becoming a whinging society, I would bet that most teachers turned in this morning but because of health and safety matters had to close the schools, how many of the whinging parents would then complain if their little darlings got a broken ankle or worse because of an iced up footpath or playing surface, or got injured in playing 'snow balls'?

| I am sorry but Teachers from Schools that are closed to pupils as a direct result of snow , should still be at the school and in work.
For one, they should all be there to begin to clear snow and ice from school grounds and the surrounding pavements and then to throw down grit in play grounds in order that a childs valuable education can continue the following day.
God forbid that if the roads or passable they still get together in school and plan future lessons or a catch up strategy for the children upon reopening
That would serve the childrens best interests better, rather than the Teachers having a day in bed or venturing out for a day of fun filled frolics on Green Hill (fully paid)

| Agreed Harold.
Older pupils should be out spreading salt on pavements.
Younger ones should all be given a brush/small spade to clear snow and slush from the streets on which they live.
And'local authorities need to ensure paths to off licences and pubs are easily accessible.

| It makes a mockery when Leigh CE Juniors, St Mary's, Gilded Hollins are open, and Lowton High, Lowton St Mary's, Bedford are shut. Gilded Hollins is about 200yrds from Lowton High.
Headmaster makes the call, some have balls and some don't.
If I can get to the other side of Manchester to work, and my colleagues get to London and Glasgow, then why can't teachers and kids get in.
If the teachers didn't get paid if they didn't turn up, then all the schools would be open.
