I liked rocky and in my view he never let the club down but I think his adaptability to play a number of positions at the club without holding down a regular position probably worked against him.
I wish him all the best for the future.

Given the clubs stance on vaccinated players and, if what i have read is true, Hampshire's view on the same, it certainley is a parting of the ways which is a shame as no matter where he's played he's done a good job. No doubt he'll pick up a SL contract. He's too good not to.

I tend to agree but time is well and truly running out for this season.

As for his vaccination stance then I’d say that if it’s the reason we didn’t re-sign him all other SL clubs will take the same stance.

Hampshire is a real enigma but money seems to play a huge role in his thinking at times. Truth is you can value yourself at any level you wish but unless someone share that view you’re not worth a dime.

I’m not saying you should under value yourself.but your valuation has to match your current market value as seen by the game and not by you. I’m not saying that’s what’s happened here but it does seem to be a reoccurring theme.

I think you're correct in the sense that that's where his only likely options lie, but he's been quite vocal about only wanting to play in SL hasn't he?
He said in an interview with the Reach group a couple of months ago "I'm fortunate to be in a position that I don't have to jump at something I don’t feel good about." So I think he'll just hang around and wait to see if injury creates an opening at SL level.

It sounds like Rocky is financially secure and not in a rush to be forced into a move that he doesn't want to make, ie out of the top flight.

We have seen players in the past make the drop down and come back to have good SL careers but it doesn't seem he wants to, or needs to follow that path just yet.

If he is out of the game for a full season I would think his main route back in would be to drop down, however I think at the moment he is probably comfortable by the sounds of it sitting back working hard and waiting for the injuries to start rolling in and pick up a gig that way. It's a risk but it may pay off.

If Union hasn't made an approach I would be surprised. I think his game would transfer across quite comfortably to the 15 man code.

I am sure he will have opportunities in the near future which are attractive to him. He may not be a fit for the current set up at Wakefield but he is without doubt a SL standard player.

I just hope wherever he gets a deal he is given time consistently at fullback and not shunted about so he can have a go at making the position his own.

His main route back in is if a team gets a catastrophic injury crisis in positions he can cover. Covid issue aside.

Listening to a RL podcast and a players agent was talking about players out of contract and he stated that he believed a few super league clubs had enquired after Rocky but money was the issue ,things may have changed as the post cast is a few weeks old now . He did say that what Rocky thinks he is worth is not what the clubs are willing to pay out or words to that effect.

Money will be the issue.

Not saying that Hampshire is n any way greedy but the SKY deal has simply decimated wages and good a player though he is he isn’t good enough to get a premium.

For a lot of players it’s a brutal new reality for now.

I tend to agree that Rocky's versatility, has for him, been his downfall - seems clubs are only prepared to pay so much for what they see as a utility player.
I like Hampshire and I wish we had re-signed him but the coach knows best so we have to respect that.
I think too that he may end up in the championship, but who knows.
